Empowering Future Leaders: Breaking Stigma and Supplying Sanitary Towels in Schools
Every young girl deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue her dreams without barriers. Yet, for millions of school-going girls across the globe, a completely natural biological process—menstruation—becomes a monthly obstacle to education.
To tackle this challenge head-on, we recently hosted a comprehensive Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Program focused on educating students and distributing sanitary towels directly to girls in need. Here is a look at why this initiative matters, what we achieved, and how proper menstrual health management transforms lives.
The Challenge: Why Menstrual Hygiene Matters in Schools
When young girls lack access to safe sanitary products and clean facilities, the consequences extend far beyond physical discomfort.
• School Absenteeism: Many girls miss 4 to 5 days of school every month due to a lack of period products, causing them to fall significantly behind in their studies.
• Health Risks: Without proper sanitary towels, girls are often forced to use unhygienic alternatives, increasing their risk of reproductive tract infections.
• Loss of Confidence: The stigma, shame, and fear of accidental staining severely impact a girl's self-esteem, making her withdraw from classroom participation and sports.
By bringing awareness directly into schools, we can break the silence, dismantle long-standing stigmas, and restore period dignity to every learner
